Pikachu! I choose you!

Updated: Nov 25, 2023

Choosing the caterer for the day you've dreamt about your entire life is about finding the one that resonates with the emotions and significance of this special moment.

Ugggghhhh...

After the venue, choosing your caterer will be the most important decision you and your partner will have to make. With so many choices out there, it can get pretty overwhelming. Here are some things to consider:

Quantity or Quality?

Some people eat to live, while others live to eat. Which one are you? To some couples, the food takes a backseat to the photographer, DJ, and even the wedding dress, so having a meal that's consistent and executed fast may be more important than the couples who believe the overall food experience makes or breaks the day. Either way, both sides can agree that everyone will always remember a poor food experience!

Bespoke or Prix Fixe?

A prix fixe menu allows couples to have food that is consistent because it tends to be the menus that are executed the most. This also translates to a lower cost menu because the labor logitics allow access to a more duplicatable process for the staff. For the couples who want a piece of them to be experienced by all their guests during the reception, a bespoke, or custom menu will be the best choice for them. While this menu choice is all but certain to be the most expensive option, a foodie couple can be assured that their personalities and memories will be imparted in the menu they helped create with the executive chef.

Buyer beware

Whichever catering spectrum you fall on, make sure to do your due diligence and research the catering company. If it's too good to be true, it most likely is. However, unicorns do exist, but it may take quite a few phone calls to get to them. The usual places to start looking for reviews would be Wedding Wire, The Knot, and Google. Be careful when asking for services on social media because everyone who's ever turned on a stove seems to come out offering their services. If you have any doubts about a caterer, find out where they are preferred vendors and reach out to the venue to get a reference. If everything checks out, reach out the the caterer and get in for a tasting quick, because they're most likely one of the most desirable and you could be on the outside looking in.
